Classifying epilepsy in older adults poses challenges due to prevalent comorbidities and neurobiological changes associated with aging. Conventional diagnostic tools and general approaches are often insufficient, emphasizing the need for more personalized treatments. These comorbidities not only complicate management but also negatively impact quality of life, underscoring the importance of protocols that address both medical and psychosocial aspects. The study aimed to characterize the clinical and etiological aspects of epilepsy in this population, identify modifiable interventions, and propose a clinical history design. The methodology was observational, retrospective, and analytical. Results revealed significant variability in the duration and frequency of seizures, with a predominance of focal seizures influenced by comorbidities and neurovascular factors. Advanced diagnostic tools and multidisciplinary approaches were deemed essential for improving management. Adherence to treatment and caregiver support were identified as critical factors impacting quality of life. In conclusion, improving the classification and management of epilepsy in older adults requires integrating advanced technology, multidisciplinary teams, and specific attention to comorbidities, ensuring a holistic and effective approach.
