Introduction and objectives. Modifiable risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACVD) include, in addition to the known ones, several closely related metabolic ones such as overweight/obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), elevated fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance, and sedentary lifestyle, which makes it necessary to interpret and modify metabolic risk factors to effectively face the spread of the ACVD epidemic by modifying the cardiometabolic continuum from a very early age to obtain greater and earlier benefits in reducing morbidity and mortality cardiovascular in the future. Method. This article is based on numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals since the beginning of the century. Results. The projection of metabolic disorders towards adulthood is clearly established in the modern epidemic of cardiometabolic diseases since their onset at an early age represents a window of opportunity, knowing that metabolic dysfunction is of early onset. Conclusions. The implementation of cardiometabolic prevention from an early age constitutes a critical value in reducing the burden of risk factors for ACVD and type 2 diabetes and thus reducing the late burden of these diseases.
