Neurosurgical morbidity associated with the neurosurgery service at Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad in the period January-September 2024

Introduction: Neurosurgical morbidity is a statistical indicator, and its analysis is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and optimize outcomes in neurosurgical patients. Objective: to determine the neurosurgical morbidity associated with the neurosurgery service of the La Trinidad Teaching Medical Center in the period January - September 2024. Method: it is a cross-sectional descriptive observational study, which will be made up of all patients treated in the Neurosurgery Service. Neurosurgery of the La Trinidad Teaching Medical Center during the period between January and September 2024. Results: Preliminary results indicate that the main clinical characteristic that the patients presented was low back pain, which was the cause of surgical intervention, with a total of 52 patients (27.7% of the total). Intervention in the lumbar spine stands out as the most frequent procedure and with respect to the neurological deficit related to the type of surgery, in the case of hemiparesis it occurred in 5 patients, which represents (2.7%), the majority of patients did not present deficits. significant postoperative neurological symptoms, this is an indicator of the quality of care provided. Conclusions: in this study, a predominance of interventions in the lumbar spine and brain surgeries was observed; however, the majority of patients did not present significant postoperative neurological deficits, which is an indicator of the quality of the care provided.
