The surgical cure of inguinal hernia is a common surgery with frequent complications. In this study, the relationship between inguinal hernia surgery and risk factors, such as diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, steroid use, among others, is explored. 41 cases were analyzed, with a complication rate of 39%, with any deviation from the normal postoperative period considered as a complication. Factors such as age, smoking, hypertension and abdominal surgeries were evaluated; the relationship with complications was not statistically significant. Although the 30-day follow-up did not reveal recurrences or serious complications, the overall complication rate was higher than in international studies, suggesting a possible relationship with technical aspects, surgeries performed in training centers, or factors specific to the population. In conclusion, this work establishes a valuable foundation for future research on inguinal hernia in Venezuela, advocating for continued expansion and more detailed evaluation of risk factors and their impact on postoperative outcome.
