Abdominal port site metastasis (PSM) is defined as the implantation of tumor cells at the trocar insertion site after laparoscopic resection of a malignant tumor. It has been reported that metastases at the port site are rare, presenting an incidence of 1-2% of all laparoscopic procedures in gynecological surgery. Regarding its pathogenesis, establishing identifiable risk factors for the development of MSP is a challenge. The main hypotheses for its cause are the immune response, pneumoperitoneum, contamination of the wound and the surgical method, which is associated with a poor prognosis. Ways to prevent MSP have been constantly updated, but are controversial. Strict compliance with oncological principles is the basis of good surgical results and, most importantly, appropriate patient selection.
