Abstract

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia is an anatomical defect of the diaphragm whose prevalence at birth is approximately 1 in 2,500 to 5.000 live birth. The use of a standardizer protocol from the neonatal period to postnatal care makes it possible to offer consistent medical treatment, multidisciplinary and thus be able to avoid unnecessary treatments and improve the patient’s prognosis, as well as the rationalization of resources by reducing hospitalization time. Objectives: To propose a protocol for the management of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia in the Trinidad Teaching Medical Center (CMDLT) Methodology Feasible project which was carried out in four phases of studies to carry out the proposal. The care population is made up of the medical staff of the obstetrics, neonatology and pediatric surgery services. Results: 100% of the population expressed the need for and importance of creating a protocol for the treatment of patients diagnosed with congenital diaphragmatic hernia, for which a protocol was carried out that includes management from the prenatal stage to the postnatal stage. Conclusions: This protocol reflects an effort to standardize management of congenital diaphragmatic hernia at the institutional and national levels, using a combination of national and international expert consensus, focusing on multidisciplinary management and covering all phases of this pathology.
