Incidence of urinary tract infections in patients with Covid–19 hospitalized in CMDLT during september 2021 –february 2022

Introduction: Urinary tract infection represents one of the most common reasons for medical consultation in daily practice, the intention of this study is to know its incidence in patients hospitalized with COVID19. Methods: This is a retrospective, cross sectional and observational study in patients hospitalized for COVID 19 during the period from September 2021 to February 2022 at the Centro Medico Docente la Trinidad (CDMLT) Caracas, Venezuela. We reviewed medical records from 180 patients from 18-98 years old to obtain specific data like clinical history, laboratory tests (urea and creatinine), urine cultures, etc. Means were calculated using T-student test through the EPI Info 3.5.4 software. Results: From a sample of 180 positive patients for COVID-19, it was found that 32 of them presented Urinary Infection (17.8%), from which 19 patients (59.4%) were female and Escherichia coli was the main etiological agent isolated in all the studied patients (59.4%). Conclusions: An incidence of 17.8 % of urinary tract infections in patients with COVID-19, more common in women is evident. The mostly isolated pathological agent was E. coli.
